About Doug LaRue
Exposed to a wide range of creative expression at an early age Doug LaRue embraced the raw organic nature of painting expressed by his mother, an accomplished Oil Painter and the technical aspects of Photography and Design from his father, an Engineer.
LaRue began to win art contests by 8th grade and flew through advanced/honors Art classes during high school, worked at camera stores, photo labs, interned with several photographers including a partner and contemporary of Ansel Adams, attended university summer classes in advanced photography, won a national publication design award and featured in a film which led to a college scholarship.
Doug earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Design while working as a Sports Photojournalist for United Press International and Associated Press. Doug spent a few years as a Medical Illustrator training with traditional mediums and specialized graphics computers, film and press equipment. LaRue attended many workshops including Advanced Airbrush at the Smithsonian Institute of Natural History in Washington, D.C. LaRue moved to Austin, Texas to get into Publishing. Starting in the art room and moving to Creative Director, Editor in Chief and Executive Producer.
